discount jersey boy tickets nyc Bar owner says people are reading too much into jerseys used as doormats
Last season, Kaepernick, then a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, decided to not stand for the national anthem which is played before all NFL games.
Kaepernick told reporters he was sitting as a way to protest police killings of minorities.
While Kaepernick remains a free agent, Burle said he decided to order an Oakland Raiders Marshawn Lynch jersey after the running back defended Kaepernick when he came out of retirement.
Burle taped the Lynch jersey to the left of the Kaepernick jersey and, when read together, the jerseys spelled out ‘Lynch Kaepernick.’
A photo posted on the bar’s Facebook page has since gone viral as USA Today, NBC News and the Washington Post have since picked it up.
The six year Air Force veteran said it wasn’t supposed to be read as a sentence.
“I saw them as two jerseys,” Burle said in a phone interview with the News Leader. “I was not intending for dead bodies on my front stoop.”
Burle said as soon as the problem was brought to his attention, the jerseys were removed.
Still, the bar owner said NFL games will not be shown in his bar until the protests are over. He said if the NBA follows with protests, then the bar won’t show basketball games either.
“I’m not a racist individual,” Burle said. “I don’t disagree with what they’re standing for. I believe the country is becoming separated.”.
