WILKES BARRE The Greater Wilkes Barre Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual dinner Tuesday, and the highlight will be the presentation of several top awards. at Mohegan Sun Pocono. The award is for businesses in the Greater Wilkes Barre area with more than 50 employees; criteria include how the company was started and how it has grown over the years. Also considered were the company significant accomplishments, awards or recognition. Company and employees civic roles also are considered.
Emerging Business of the Year: MCR Productions; sponsored by PNC Bank. Award is for businesses in the Greater Wilkes Barre area with less than 50 employees. Criteria considered includes how the company was started, developed, expanded or otherwise effectively managed. For example, historical perspective, number of years in business, investment in and commitment to the community. Also considered are significant accomplishments, awards or recognition that distinguish the business, and there also should be a list of company and employees civic activities.
Charitable Organization of the Year: Candy Place, a Cancer Wellness Center; sponsored by Sordoni Construction. The award is for organizations in the Greater Wilkes Barre area classified as 501 (c)3 groups. The nominees were asked to describe the goals and mission of the organization, plus list accomplishments and contributions to the welfare of the community.
Pride of Place Awards: Wilkes University, Penn State Wilkes Barre, and Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites Wilkes Barre Scranton; sponsored by Geisinger Health Plan and Geisinger Health System. The award recognizes and honors businesses,
industries and organizations that have improved the physical environment of the Greater Wilkes Barre area. In the new construction/restoration/renovation category, the criteria include a building or complex recently designed from the ground up, or an existing structure that has had its external or internal surface improved, modernized or returned to its former appearance. In the environmental enhancement category, the criteria includes natural or improvements to areas or preserving existing landscape around a new building or existing structure.
Healthy Workplace Award: InterMetro Industries; sponsored by Geisinger Health Plan and Geisinger Health System. According to the chamber website, InterMetro offers several company wellness programs throughout the year to employees, including free screenings, blood drives, free popcorn, fruit days, and lunch and learns.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Greg Collins; sponsored by the Tambur Family Foundation. Collins has been with Wells Fargo for 25 years, heading a team of 300 employees at 37 branch offices in nine counties. He also has served in several community organizations, including the Wilkes Barre YMCA, United Way of Wyoming Valley, Misericordia University, Leadership Wilkes Barre,
and Wilkes Barre General Hospital.
