Rep. Lou Barletta presented Gerald Brekke, petty officer first class (retired), of Nescopeck, medals he earned while serving in the Navy during a ceremony Friday at Barletta Hazleton office.
Brekke enlisted and served from 1953 to 1957 and re enlisted in the Seabee Active Reserves from 1963 to 1979, rising to a rank of petty officer first class.
Brekke initially sought a re issue of his Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal,
a Unit Citation and Meritorious Service Award. But after a review of his records, it was found he was entitled to additional medals for his service. The review found he achieved the Navy Sharpshooter Rifle Ribbon, which was presented during the ceremony.
